How to calculate amount of fresh food required for your pet dog in a day
With the assumption that most pet owners feed their pet two meals a day, to meet the energy requirements of a 10 kg dog, one has to feed their pet a packet of two hundred grams of fresh food each both in the morning and evening. Energy requirements varies with individual animal depending on age, activity level, body condition score, disease status etc. An information guide is provided for your reference as follows. Owners are to observe the pet's weight and body shape regularly to adjust their feeding plan. If the fresh food is to be mixed with their staple foods,  please adjust the amount of food according to the calorie requirements. If in doubt, please follow your consulting veterinarian's advice on your pet's energy requirement.

My pet has no interest in fresh food, what should I do?
Due to long-term consumption of dry pelleted food, some pets especially cats may have phobia to new foods as they are not used to the taste and flavours of fresh foods. In the early transition stage to fresh food, your pet may prefer their original commercial dry or canned food. We recommend to mix the fresh food with the original food to help your pet to get used to the taste of fresh food through the transition period. Also try to avoid ad libitum feeding.

There are quite a lot of liquid in the fresh food bag?
Some of the pawlistic fresh food is cooked with rich herbal broth with natural ingredients, so it is not unusual to have some soup at the bottom of the vacuum pack. This soup contains all the essential nutrients which should be fed to your pet.

Experiencing temporary side effects like gastrointestinal upset or vomiting?
All of us understand that natural foods are better for health. However, as the normal flora in the digestive system of many pets are too accustomed to the highly processed food diet, gastrointestinal problems may occur occasionally when switching to fresh food. If you notice diarrhea or other GI symptoms like vomiting, turn immediately back to the previous feed, of course, symptoms may be relieved, but if you do not find the root cause of the problem , the condition will not be improved. It is recommended to consult Chinese veterinarians for advice and find out the best way to help hair children keep healthy.

How to store fresh food bags:

Fresh food packs are recommended to be stored in freezer. It can be thawed in the refrigerator one day before consumption. The recommended storage period is 90 days.

Does the food need to be heated?

From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, cold food is not good for the spleen and stomach. Long-term consumption of cold food may cause problems, so we recommend to warm the food before consumption.

How to warm food:

We recommend putting the thawed vacuum packed fresh food meals in warm water for 5-7 minutes before feeding. Please try not to get too hot before feeding. Microwave heating will denature the valuable nutrients and minerals in the meal pack, therefore it is not recommended.

Will eating fresh food create more dental issues?

Contrary to popular belief, dry food does not have the function of cleaning teeth (except for prescription food for cleaning teeth). The dental condition of the animal will depend on the dental (teeth) conformation of the animal, chewing habits and eating habits, etc. Some animals are prone to periodontal disease while others are not. It is therefore paramount to have regular oral care. We recommend brushing your pet’s teeth at least 3 times a week. Dental diseases may cause serious illness like bacterial infection in heart when bacteria in the oral cavity translocate to the heart via the blood stream.

Do animals need other nutritional supplements?

The nutritional content of the Pawlistic Kitchen fresh food meal is designed and home crafted by our co-founders (veterinarians) to exceed the AAFCO animal nutrition standard. However, there are certain dietary formulas for specific health conditions that may have adjusted protein, fat and trace element content level. These are all stated on the the website or brochure . Feel free to contact our friendly veterinary team for further clarifications and we will get back to you soonest.
